When you do any amount of sewing, you understand the importance of a good price on fabric. When you find those good values, you want to hang onto those “insider knowledge” locations and not share them with too many people. I will confess that most people have just not taken me up on the opportunity to go shopping in the neat little place where I find most of the deals I have found many of the fabrics I have bought for the last few projects I have worked on lately. I am not sure why they would shun the opportunity to save a lot of money for good fabric.
The realization has come that when we relocate, I will have to start the process of finding those little local secrets again. I am not sure I will be able to find another location as great as the place I have found in Spring, Texas but I am sure going to try. I am hoping that with a metroplex as large as the Dallas-Fort Worth area that I will be able to find at least once place comparable to what I found here. They really are hard to beat though. The prices are amazing! The selection is great! Those are hard to come by at the same time.
I was in the Dallas area on Tuesday this week looking at a couple of houses. I took my mother along so that I was not doing the drive there and back by myself in the same day. That was the plan anyway. Since we had time to kill before we were scheduled to actually look at the houses I wanted to look at, we wandered into Downtown Rockwall, Texas to visit the Texas Quiltworks, LLC shop. I have to say that we were both very disappointed. I was extremely underwhelmed. It was nothing more than a sewing machine shop with a very small amount of quilt fabric in it at quilt shop prices. Not exactly going to win any price wars there. I was NOT impressed. I certainly would not be making a habit to battle the traffic and try to find parking to be disappointed every trip and pay higher prices than at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s.
I am on the search for additional locations to check out in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. I would prefer on the Lake Ray Hubbard side of things, but I am willing to drive for the right price and selection. My mother assures me that Moda Fabrics is big up in the area so surely I will be able to find something somewhere. I hope so. I would LOVE to be able to design fabric for a big fabric company one day, but that is a pipe dream for sometime in the future. Right now, I will settle for just finding fabric to use and make pretty creations with.
